Benjamin got to use the high chair for the first time tonight! He didn't actually eat anything on it, but he is trying out sitting up in the high chair and is doing a great job. He seems so tiny! That's the way Emily looked her first try at it too, and now look how huge she is. Speaking of Emily, she is learning to take pictures (with mommy and daddy's help). The bottom picture is from her portfolio it's called "daddy on the phone feeding baby." She is also speaking in extremely long sentences, we counted a 13 worder the other day (along the lines of "his mommy is gonna go inside the house and find his rain hat"). She will soon be surpassing her daddy in verbal skills. Luckily mommy is a better communicator so Emily will have someone to converse with for a little while longer. We think that Ben has an intolerance to soy, especially soy protein, because whenever Sarah accidentally has any (she's been on a soy/dairy free diet for a few weeks now), he gets extremely cranky for a day and a half. Time will tell if it's just coincidence, immature intestines, or really is an intolerance, but we have our suspicions. We've started him on a super hypoallergenic formula to supplement his voracious appetite, and so far so good, but it has soy oil in it. We'll give it a couple of more days and see what happens. In the meantime, if anyone needs any soy/dairy free recipes, we have a few. One of the best one's so far is Curt's coconut chocolate "ice cream", made from coconut cream, coconut milk, cocoa powder, peanut butter and rum. Lots of rum... no, just kidding, only a little rum. Sarah otherwise can't have any ice cream, except "Oatscreme," which is pretty much horrible, so it's nice to have a little treat. Oh, and if anyone wants to play a nasty trick on someone, substitute out the american cheese in that sandwich you're making with some "rice cheese." How that can be called cheese I have no idea, more like grainy, nasty, pasty stuff in a square. Makes you want to run out and buy some, huh? Curt is thinking about getting into this niche market for foods, as you can't make stuff much worse, there's a lot of room for competition. Anyways, we're all doing well. Happy New Year!
