We had a surprise birthday party for Britt's 60th last night at our house, and Anne and Jim came in from New Jersey to celebrate with us. Here's Anne, Britt, Sarah and Emily all together at the end of the evening. Emily did great with most of the new people she saw, as long as she couldn't see her mom or dad throughout the evening. She was passed around and about all evening. It's amazing how those parental instincts kick in when she starts to cry. I could hear her across a noisy crowded room, or even upstairs when Emily cried. We did our best to pay no attention to those parental instincts, and amazingly enough, most of the time Emily got over her fear of strangers.
